Bringing home gold!

A big congratulations to current Champlain Saint-Lambert student Giulia Hart-Lewis and her sister, Champlain alumna Alessia Hart-Lewis, who brought home a gold medal from the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships this weekend.

Giulia, who is in her final semester at Champlain, and Alessia, who graduated in 2019, are part of the St-Léonard synchronized skating team, Les Suprêmes.

The gold medal win represents Canada’s first victory in seven years at the Championship, according to Skate Canada.

Both of the Hart-Lewis sisters train over 20 hours per week, and have devoted over 15 years of their lives to achieve this goal.

The team competed against athletes from around the world on Saturday, seizing their chance to participate for the first time in two years as the last two events were cancelled due to COVID-19.

Les Suprêmes earned 236.31 points for their performance, the highest score ever recorded at worlds since the current scoring system was implemented in 2005.

Team members include Amelia Asparian, Anouk Begin, Karianne Begin, Julia Bernardo, Anne-Claude Champagne, Loriana Cocca, Marie-Ève Comtois, Laurie Désilets, Olivia Di Giandomenico, Lisanne Foley, Charlotte Grutter, Alessia Hart-Lewis, Giulia Hart-Lewis, Audrey-Ann Lajeunesse, Agathe Sigrid Merlier, Andréanne Paradis, Martha Maria Pietrasik, Florence Poulin, Olivia Ronca and Emmakaisa Tikkinen.
