Our Return to Campus section provides information for the Fall 2021 semester. We thank you all, for the understanding and adaptability you have shown through such challenging times.

 

CURRENT PLANS FOR A RETURN

 

The Quebec government has stated that there will be a return to in-person learning for Fall 2021. Champlain College is excited to officially welcome all students and faculty back on site for the first day of Fall classes on Tuesday, August 24th.

 

The return to campus will be a major transition for the entire community. We understand that you all have questions and concerns about the upcoming fall semester. For a full and safe return to campus, please ensure to follow the required measures that have been put in place.

 

Below are some questions you might have, along with answers to help ease your concerns. .

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DEVELOP SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19

 

  • What do I do if I develop Covid-19 symptoms during the day while at the College?

    If you develop Covid-19 symptoms (fever, new or worsening cough, etc) while at the College please proceed to the Info Center who will advise Security.  You will be asked to leave the College.  If you do not have transportation you will be taken to the Covid Room to isolate until transportation can be arranged. Staff should also notify their manager.  Upon return home you should follow the government protocol and call the coronavirus (COVID‑19) information line at 514‑644‑4545 or 450‑644‑4545. Day Division Students should notify Dean Howie, Director of Student Services, while staff should contact their Manager & Human Resources. Faculty should notify Human Resources.  For Continuing Education, if you course or activity takes place in the evening or weekend when the Info Center is closed, please contact Security at extension 3210.

  • What do I do if I develop Covid-19 symptoms and am not at the College?

    If you develop Covid-19 symptoms (fever, new or worsening cough, etc) and you are not at the College you should follow the government protocol and call the coronavirus (COVID‑19) information line at 514‑644‑4545 or 450‑644‑4545.  Students should notify the Dean Howie, Director of Student Services Student Services, Continuing Education Students/RAC candidates should notify the Continuing Education Office, while staff should contact their Manager & Human Resources. Faculty should notify Human Resources. Please follow the directives you receive from the coronavirus (COVID‑19) information line.

 

FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE CHAMPLAIN COMMUNITY

 

  • Contact Tracing – How does it work? (NEW September 7th)

    When the College is alerted that someone in the college community has tested positive for COVID it proceeds as follows:

    If a member of the College Community informs the College

    • The College immediately informs the CISSS Monteregie;
    • The person is interviewed virtually by the College;
    • A list of contacts (classmates, cafeteria, library, office, etc) is identified and forwarded to the CISSS;
    • The CISSS performs a risk assessment;
    • The CISSS returns to the College the risk assessment along with a correspondence to be sent to all contacts;
    • The College informs the contacts of their risk level.

     

    If the CISSS informs the College

    • The person is interviewed virtually by the College;
    • A list of contacts (classmates, cafeteria, library, office, etc) is identified and forwarded to the CISSS;
    • The CISSS performs a risk assessment;
    • The CISSS returns to the College the risk assessment along with a correspondence to be sent to all contacts;
    • The College informs the contacts of their risk level.
  • Will I still have to wear a mask?

    Effective August 30th everyone will be required to wear procedural/medical masks in the building at all times. Except for, when eating in the cafeteria while a 2-metre distance is being respected, alone in closed office or in an office with a 2-metre distance or barrier.

  • Will Champlain continue to offer procedural masks to all students, faculty, & staff?

    Effective August 30th procedural/medical masks will be offered to all members of the College community.  They are available at the hand-washing stands at all the doors.  You are also welcome to bring your own procedural/medical mask.
  • I am feeling anxious & nervous about returning to work or study on campus. Who can I ask for help?

    Returning back to the College after being away for so long can be difficult. For any additional support you can contact the services and departments listed below.

  • Is it safe to return to campus?

    The College has been working diligently over the past year to ensure a safe environment for all. Please respect and follow procedures that have been put in place for everyone’s safety.
  • Am I required to show proof of vaccination to come back on site?

    No. Proof of vaccination is not required to attend classes. However, as per Government directives it will be required for parascolaire & extracurricular activities, including club activities & athletics.  Verification of vaccine status will start September 1st and will prevent participation in the identified activities as of September 15th.
  • Could the College close down during the semester? How are decisions being made?

    The College is in continual contact with Santé Publique and the Provincial Government. We will follow any new directives should there be any.
  • What if I have a health condition and am immunocompromised?

    Any student or employee who is immunocompromised, has family members who are immunocompromised or has other serious health issues that prevent them from working and studying on site should contact the services below. Each situation will be treated on a case-by-case basis.

  • What changes are being made on campus?

    A huge tent with heating and flooring has been installed outside the cafeteria. It will provide the Champlain community with an additional eating space, as well as, an area to conduct student activities. There has also been an increase in cleaning, disinfecting surfaces & rooms as well as increasing supervision & security. Effective August 30th procedural/medical masks are mandatory for everyone entering the building. They are available at the hand-washing stands at all the building entrances. Please respect and follow procedures that have been put in place for everyone’s safety.

  • Will there still be a pre-screening questionnaire to complete before entering the College?

    As of Monday August 16th, there will no longer be a pre-screening questionnaire. However, members of the community should refrain from entering the College if they are showing any Covid-19 related symptoms. 
  • Will student space, library and the cafeteria be open?

    Yes, all College spaces including the student space, library and the cafeteria will be open. Again, everyone will be required to wear masks in the building at all times. Except for, when eating in the cafeteria while a 2-metre distance is being respected.
  • Are water fountains open?

    Water Fountains are open on a limited basis (water bottle outlets only) so you may fill your water bottles.  There is no drinking from the fountain.
  • Are the showers and changing rooms open?

    The changing rooms are open in the D-Block and a mask must be worn at all times.  The showers are open with limited access.  Please respect the signage and numbers permitted.

FOR STUDENTS

 

  • Will students and instructors be required to wear masks in the classroom?

    Everyone will be required to wear procedural/medical masks in all common areas in the building including classrooms at all times. Except for, when eating in the cafeteria while a 2-metre distance is being respected, in private offices or when a barrier has been installed.  Students may remove their mask for Phys-Ed courses, with the teacher’s permission, during a physical activity and they must maintain 2-metre social distancing.

  • What if I have long-term illness or disabilities related to COVID-19?

    If you are immunocompromised and/or have family members who are immunocompromised or has other serious health issues that prevent them from studying on site. You should contact the services below. Each situation will be treated on a case-by-case basis.

    Day Division Students: Contact the Registrar’s Office by MIO.

    Continuing Education Students/RAC candidates: Contact Anja Vroomen in Continuing Education at avrooment@crcmail.net

  • Will exams or other assessments be in-person?

    Day Division: Yes. Exams and assessments will all be in-person.

    Continuing Education: Will vary according to specific program, course, and service.

  • What will happen if students are not following the College’s protocols related to COVID-19?

    You will be addressed in a polite and respectful manner by faculty or staff. If the behaviour does not change, the College’s Authority (in most cases, the Campus Security) will be contacted to address the issue. You may also be referred to a College Dean as per the Code of Student Conduct.

 

FOR STAFF

 

  • Can I continue to work from home?

    No. As of Monday August 16th, all staff will be required to return back to the College.
  • What about my shared office space?

    The College is following the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) recommendations. At least one of the following measures must be taken:

    • 2-metre distance is respected
    • Physical separation barrier is installed
    • Everyone wearing a mask
  • What do I do if a student isn’t following the College’s protocols related to COVID-19?

    Please address the student in a polite and respectful manner. If the behaviour does not change please contact the College Authority (in most cases, the Campus Security).
  • Are the staff/faculty showers and changing rooms open?

    The staff change rooms and showers are open with limited access.  Please respect the signage and number of people permitted.  The key for the staff room must be picked up and signed for at security.

 

FOR FACULTY

 

  • Will I be able to teach online even if we are in person? (Updated September 7th)?

    Day Division: Only classes that were approved as a blended learning/CoI course may use asynchronous delivery.

    Continuing Education: The specifics regarding the delivery of each course (onsite, online, mix) will be communicated in each posting or at the time of the presentation of the work offer.

  • Will students and instructors be required to wear masks in the classroom?

    Everyone will be required to wear procedural/medical masks in the building at all times. Except for, when eating in the cafeteria while a 2-metre distance is being respected.

  • What do I do if a student in my classroom isn’t following the College’s protocols related to COVID-19?

    Please address the student in a polite and respectful manner. If the behaviour does not change please contact the College’s Authority such as the Academic Dean or even the Campus Security).
  • Is my shared office space safe?
