The Cavalier Rugby teams both got big wins this past weekend, with the men coming from behind to defeat Vanier 35-19 and the ladies getting their first win of the season over Marianopolis.
The Women’s Rugby team was looking for their first win of the season, coming off of a hard game against Lennoxville last weekend. Marianopolis was on tap for this week’s match and the Cavaliers were ready. From the beginning the team was dominant, controlling the ball and winning the scrums and rucks, continually pushing hard. Rachel Ten Eyck, member of the Quebec U-18 Women’s Provincial team, had an outstanding match, scoring 40 points for the Cavaliers. The ladies took the match by an impressive score of 59-0. The win moves them into 4th place and they look to solidify their spot as they head out to Gatineau to play Heritage College on Monday.
The Men’s team were looking to rebound after a tough 14-17 loss to Brébeuf last weekend. Heading up to St. Laurent to face the Vanier Cheetahs, the guys started the match off pace, giving up a quick lead to Vanier. Down 19-10 at the half, the Cavaliers fought back, scoring 25 unanswered points in the 2nd stanza. Notables in the match were Nicolas Dubé, Connor Sinclair, Cordell Davies, Gabriel Lavigne and Simon de Laplante who each had a try and Phil Ednie who scored twice. The team travels to Heritage College in Gatineau to play on Monday, October 13.
